leonardo da vinci. science before science [exhibition guide] a cura di redazione arte'm

the exhibition brings to light the fruitful web of cultural relations that permeated the engineering, art and thought of the 15th and 16th centuries, at the dawn of the scientific revolution that went on to transform the vision of the modern world. it provides an opportunity to analyze leonardo’s theoretical and technological work, beginning with the artist’s early years in tuscany, followed by his long stay in milan and through the late period in rome. by also spelling out his cultural connections with the world around him, the exhibition offers a broad, many-layered vision of this larger-than-life personality, who is too often presented as an isolated genius.

ten of leonardo’s drawings from the codex atlanticus and more than 200 models, manuscripts, drawings, books, prints and paintings from prestigious institutions in italy and abroad illustrate the many areas of knowledge tackled by leonardo in the domain of technical and humanist thought, the focus of the debate among artists and engineers at the time of the renaissance.
